ThundersFalling somewhere between Bass Drum of Death and Cheap Time, Thunders embrace their white noise lo-fi garage sound gloriously. Having worked their way into the warm epicenter of every critic’s heart with 2012’s Beautiful Baby in the Bummer of Love it was only a matter of time until Thunders reached the level of acceptance and elevation which a sound such as theirs demands.

In November MOKB premiered “Noasis,” the first taste of the upcoming Weird Spines White Trash Whatever (Maximum Pelt),  the moment I pressed play I was enthralled, so much so that it made the number one spot on the HCK! Best Songs of 2013 list. Last year was an utter disappointment for fans of stripped back quasi-bratty Rock & Roll; previously mentioned Cheap Time and Bass Drum of Death both put out albums chock-full of talent yet miserable as hell, Bad Sports forgot the power of a chorus, everything seemed to float in limbo. I’m not sure where the passion was hiding in 2013 but it was a distant memory until Thunders resurfaced, a comforting reminder that drug and sweat induced Rock & Roll will never die, some band will always come along with the passion and creative genius to stoke back the fire, Thunders with their psych soaked ambitions could very well be the band which redeems us from those dark vacant days of 2013.

Thunders is Ryan Reidy, often accompanied by Michael Preuschl, they are out of Chicago. They are currently on tour  (dates below) supporting Weird Spines White Trash Whatever which officially comes out today.
